COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is for students who wish to pursue Music as an academic subject at Aorere College. The course involves a mix of music theory, performance and music production. Students work individually and collaboratively over the course of the year.

Year 10 Music is a course that develops student curiosity, critical thinking skills and music creativity. Students also have the ability to engage with their culture developing character and confidence along the way.

Instrument tuition is compulsory with school itinerant teachers and/or private teacher reaching at least Grade 1 ABRSM level. Participation in co-curricular music groups is compulsory (Choirs, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Big Band) and all voice students must be in one of the school choirs. The opportunity to perform at Principal’s Assemblies and external competitions is encouraged. 

The opportunity to sit the Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) music exams is encouraged.
COURSE FEES
$20 for materials and ABRSM Grade 1 Theory Book. Course fee entitles student to compulsory itinerant music lessons.
ASSESSMENT STANDARDS
(Optional) 91090 - Perform two pieces of music as a featured soloist
6 internal credits
(Optional) 91091 - Demonstrate ensemble skills through performing a piece of music as a member of a group
4 internal credits
