pre-requisites
L3PTE is the continuation of the Level 2 P-Tech Program (L2PTE) and is limited to students who have successfully completed L2PTE.
course description
P-Tech is a 3-5 year pathway course (starting at Year 11), which will support students into IT careers through a partnership made up of Aorere College, IBM, the Warehouse Group and MIT. P-Tech is brand new to New Zealand. Currently only offered at Aorere College and Manurewa High School as a pilot program, P-Tech has been operating successfully in the USA and Australia for a number of years.
Students accepted for P-Tech will complete NCEA achievement standards focusing on developing a range of different Digital Technologies skills, (e.g. digital graphics, app development, web design, computer programming, databases, robotics). They will also participate in regular off-site workshops, mentoring and other experiences aimed at developing digital and professional skills identified as specific to the needs of the IT industry.
A student choosing L3PTE would be strongly considering a career in the IT industry. They will be supported in either entering a career in the IT field after L3, or continuing the P-Tech pathway with MIT where they will continue to be offered similar partnership experiences (industry work experience, internships, mentoring, etc) and then support into an IT career.
L3PTE Program Structure
L3PTE is not a standard option selection. Please read the following if considering choosing L3PTE.
At L3, students will study 5 subjects. For L3PTE students, 2 of these will be L3PTE. Students are also required to choose English and Maths, as the program views these subjects as complementary to a Digital Technologies pathway.

Subject Option 3: L2PTE
