‘Technology is intervention by design: the use of practical and intellectual resources to develop products and systems (technological outcomes) that expand human possibilities by addressing needs and realising opportunities. Adaptation and innovation are at the heart of technological practice. Quality outcomes result from thinking and practices that are informed, critical, and creative.’
- The New Zealand Curriculum pp32
The Digital Technologies Department offers students opportunities to develop knowledge and skills to produce solutions in the many and varied Digital Technologies fields that continue to be in high demand on the job market. Learning takes place within a variety of authentic contexts where students design and create real digital solutions, such as digital media, game development, computer programs and web development.
Our courses allow students to follow different pathways and cover areas such as digital media, web and app development, game and animation creation, film production, robotics, digital information and information management, computer science, programming, networking and computer applications. Digital and project management skills are transferable and always useful in any job, area of study or career. Students are encouraged to develop independence, innovation, enterprise and inquiry and enjoy the opportunity to be creative and engaged in producing their own solutions.
From Years 10-13, students can choose to study any number of Digital Technologies courses, however do keep an eye out for a few restrictions listed on some of the individual subject pages.
