There are THREE main pathways at Year 13: University, MIT (or similar) and GOAL:
University Pathway
This pathway is designed for students intending to go university in 2021.
The qualification provides the opportunity to gain Level 3 and University Entrance.
Students must take 5 University Approved subjects.
Students should have gained UE Literacy and Numeracy by the end of Year 12.
Students should have gained at least 14 credits in 3 individual UE subjects at Level 2 in Year 12.
Students will have 4 supervised periods a week for independent study.
MIT (or similar Pathway)
Students will have 4 periods of a mentoring programme with one teacher each week, which will be focused on pathway development and academic achievement.
This pathway is designed for students intending to go to a Polytechnic or equivalent tertiary institution in 2021 to study a L4+ qualification OR begin an apprenticeship. The pathway provides the opportunity to gain Level 3. (NOT UE). Students take 5 subjects from a wide range of options.
Students can take a 3:2 pathway [2 days a week at a tertiary institution] and take 3 school based subjects if they have specific skills they wish to develop e.g Maths, Physics, English.
GOAL Pathway
This pathway is designed for those students who attend a tertiary course two days a week and wish to gain work experience and/or train in industry two days a week [Terms 2-4].
This pathway is for students who intend to join the workforce OR begin an apprenticeship either in 2021 or 2022.
In Term 1 students will attend a tertiary institution two days a week and school three days where the focus will be on developing workforce readiness skills and then, when ready [probably Term 2], will participate in workforce training two days a week
From Term 2 students will attend school one day a week and work to complete either L2 or L3 NCEA.
Each student will have an individualised programme on the day they attend school with a teacher.
Students will not participate in the mainstream timetable.
Some employers will offer part-time paid work outside of school hours.
Students will be able to play sport for the school and particpate in other cultural activities as obligations permit.
University Pathway

To gain this you must get at least 80 credits, with at least 60 credits at Level 3 or above. NOTE that 20 Level 2 credits are automatically credited towards the 80 credits needed for this certificate. NCEA Level 3 certificate requires level 1 Literacy and level 1 Numeracy.
Note: Depending on students’ Year 11 results, they may need to take a combination of Level 1 and Level 2 options. Also, students who have not achieved Level 1 Literacy are advised to take ENGLISH.
